DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Ivo Vinogradovs (University of Latvia)\, Ainars Auni
ns (University of Latvia)\n\nEcological modelling and spatial planning for
conservation and management of natural capitalThis session focuses on qua
ntitative ecological modelling and spatial planning as core tools for unde
rstanding\, governing\, and sustaining natural capital under environmental
change and socio-economic pressure. It emphasises approaches that represe
nt biophysical processes\, ecological limits\, and spatial structure\, and
that translate these into operational knowledge for conservation\, restor
ation\, and land-use decision-making\, including species distribution mode
lling\, spatial prioritisation and connectivity analysis\, ecosystem servi
ce and natural capital assessment\, scenario-based forecasting of land-use
and climate change impacts\, and the use of remote sensing and GIS.The se
ssion situates such work within coupled social–ecological systems\, link
ing ecological models with socio-economic information and governance proce
sses\, treating ecological constraints and biophysical limits as primary b
oundary conditions. Particular interest lies in approaches that address sc
ale\, uncertainty\, and validation\, support feasible development pathways
\, and treat nature as a structured\, dynamic system that conditions socia
l and economic organisation. Main topics:Species distribution modellingSp
atial prioritisation and optimisation methods (e.g. reserve design\, conne
ctivity analysis)Modelling ecosystem services and natural capital assessme
ntIntegration of biodiversity\, ecosystem services\, and socio-economic da
ta in spatial planningScenario analysis and forecasting of land-use and cl
